“Perfect getway!”
I was in Berry for a combination of a getaway from the city and a work visit the next day. The hotel was perfect! Beautiful, clean room with big comfy King bed, delicious breakfast (fresh fruit salad, yogurt, museli, toast, etc), air con on a very hot day, wonderful views, friendly but unobtrusive hosts. Close to Berry for a meal at night (by car). Also close to Kangaroo Valley via a beautiful winding country road. Took a 2 hour (return) bushwalk up to the nearby Drawing Room Rocks (see photos). Super bushwalk and magnificent views all the way down the coast. I got good 3G mobile reception on the Optus network in my room (contrary to another review). Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Location, location location. This quaint homestead styled retreat is situated 7km out of Berry towards the beautiful rainforests of Kangaroo Valley and it doesn't get much more gorgeous than that. The rooms were clean and adequate, the included breakfast exceptionally good. The serenity and quiet atmosphere is really relaxing and there are great bushwalks available right at your door so to speak, they're really worth doing. The hosts are professional and friendly but not intrusive which for us is always a plus, all up it was a lovely stay and we would definitely reccommend it.
Liked — Location and the breakfast!

“Drawing Rooms of Berry, Perfect in every way”
We came across this little Gem from a Google search of Berry, which led us to the trip Advisor reviews. The pictures really tell a thousand words to describe this beautiful accommodation. Also had a look at their website with plenty of info on there.
As we were travelling with my parents, we didnt want two pokey little motel style rooms, but something which we could all enjoy a room together - I'd equate the lodge to a great little country apartment. We decided on the Rainforest Lodge, 2 bedroom, 2 Bathroom which was beautifully decked out in nice contemporary modern furnishings.
The lodge was perfect for two couples. Plenty of privacy and space. We had the upstairs loft bedroom which had a beautiful view out onto the mountains through the top loft windows. The staircase up to the loft room is a little tricky (especially after a couple of glasses of wine), but this just added to the experience -little things shouldnt really bother you when you're on holidays.
My Parents had the downstairs bedroom with an en-suite off to the side. My wife and I were upstairs. The beds were very comfy with nice little touches like mohair throw rugs
Great breakfast provisions provided for us, and the added special attention paid to us (would you like white or Wholemeal bread, full cream or skim milk) was a thoughtful touch. No stone left unturned here. BBQ just outside the door which is easiest to cook breaky on.
The 3 lodges are all situated within the property well away from each other so you dont see anyone else. There is also a large Bed and Breakfast style building for those who are maybe travelling in either larger groups or by themselves. This looked great and we would consider this if we were by ourselves or in a larger group travelling together - maybe 3 couples.
About 7km out of town, up a winding road which gets quite foggy on the odd autumn evening. - so my advise is to take food up and cook a nice dinner in (supermarket in Berry - great locally made frozen curries which makes it easy). Chill down a couple of bottles of wine, Stoke up the fire, grab one of the movies from reception and lock yourselves in and enjoy the beautiful boutique style accommodation. The misty mornings are beautiful to wake up to.
Take the time to have a nice morning or later afternoon walk around the property - beautiful gardens and landscaping - make sure you take your camera. We travelled in May when the trees were changing colour - plenty of beautiful vistas here.
We didnt get a chance to do the "Drawing Room Rocks" bushwalk to the top of the mountain - but will do this next time - seems as though this should be done in the afternoon though - after the mist clears.
If we come back to the South Coast, we will definitely stay again, We usually stay in apartment style accommodation on our travels - This is one of the best places we have stayed. Will recommend Drawing Rooms of Berry to all our friends. With cheap airfares and car hire these days - this is a great little mini break for anyone on the east Coast of Australia. Must stay at least two nights so you can appreciate all on offer in the area.
Our hosts Adrian and Kerry were very nice and they respect people's privacy. Well done for such a memorable place to stay.

“Lots of Luxury at The Drawing Rooms of Berry”
We visted the area to the south of Sydney during a recent round the world trip and found some excellent luxury guest accommodation in both Jervis Bay and nearby Kangaroo Valley. This property was of particularly high quality and merits special mention.
The Drawing Rooms of Berry were designed and built to exacting standards by the owners, Adrian & Kerry Turnbull, who live on the property but remain discreetly in the background. We stayed in their spacious, bed and breakfast guesthouse and had a generously proportioned bedroom with a king size bed. The furniture, fittings, bed linen & TV were of a high quality and the en-suite bathroom featured a luxurious spa bath.
We also had use of a beautifully furnished sitting/dining room complete with a fire and hi-fi; had there been other guests, we might have had to share this facility with up to 2 other couples but during our stay there were no other guests.
There are also 3 self-contained lodges in the very spacious grounds of this property; they are built to the same high standard as the guest house and are discreetly positioned so that none overlook or give rise to privacy issues.
Our hosts were attentive and friendly but never intrusive. They offered helpful advice on what to see and where to eat in the area. They also offered the use of an extensive DVD collection. Breakfast was plentiful and luxurious with lots of fresh fruit/berries and a variety of cereals (including the Drawing Rooms' scrumptious Home-made Nutty Muesli) and cooked alternatives.
This is a high quality property of great charm and elegance; it is set in magnificent surroundings and was a high point of our visit to NSW. It is a 5-star property in every respect.

“Private and contemporary find in Berry”
This is a real find in the cutesy world of Berry charm. The old world, chintzy charm of this village can really be overdone, but The Drawing Rooms, despite the stuffy title, is actually a great place to stay. (It takes its name from the nearby Drawing Room rocks formation). The guesthouse is fine if you don't mind dealing with other guests, as it has a communal area which is spacious and smartly comtemporary with a few touches of antiquity thrown in - the asian artifacts and the open fire are a plus. THe rooms are spacious and comfortable, with all you need (although be prepared: no phones, which is a plus if you want a break, but can be unnerving if your someone who needs to stay in touch, and mobile reception is tenuous). For a complete break, try one of the cottages which are self contained and away from the main guesthouse. The setting is very pretty, in its own spacious grounds and the outlook from all views really pretty. Clean, clever, contemporary and a really peaceful environment. Breakfast is included, atlhough again, for those wanting a real pamper be prepared although it's laid out you do your own thing (ie. own toast, etc). The property is in a great location as it is only a short drive from the main town of Berry, right near the KANGAROO VALLEY and not far from spectacular beaches as well. It's modern, new and the hosts are discreet. There is coffee and tea all day. This area is proliferated with guest houses and hotels but very few are as classy and quiet as this place. You won't be disappointed.
Great Outdoors Review for Drawing Rooms of Berry,
BERRY BED AND BREAKFAST - BERY ACCOMMODATION. SOUTH COAST, NSW. AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: Jul 28th, 2003
What's not to like about Berry? It's located on the beautiful south coast of NSW, the air is clean and fresh and the streets are full of olden day charm.
It's the kind of town where rolling hills are filled with cosy cottages. And it's only a two and half hours from Sydney, it'll feel like a world away.
There are plenty of great places to stay, like the Drawing Rooms of Berry. With a name like that, it's easy to imagine an artist's retreat with paintings plastered all over the walls, but this accommodation is actually named after a rock formation on the hilltop called 'the drawing rooms'.
There are two different styles of accommodation making up the Drawing Rooms of Berry, catering for couples and groups. The three lodges each have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the three guestrooms have their own ensuites, balconies and a country style atmosphere. If you stay in the guesthouse you'll have a chance to enjoy the amazing cooked breakfast. During the week there's homemade muesli, cereal, toast, fruits and honeyed yogurt. On weekends you get the full breakfast with poached eggs, asparagus, smoked salmon, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and delicious pancakes drenched in berries.

"JUST RIGHT FOR THE PICKING"
Berry's Delights are manifold, writes Winsor Dobbin
Twelve times a year, on the first Sunday of every month, the suburban hordes descend on the cute, South Coast historic town of Berry. They arrive in their over-sized four-wheel drives, bringing their children, their bad manners and city-style traffic jams. The locals watch them spend their money and bite their tongues.
The main street clogs with traffic and the many cafes fill to overflowing. The magnet, the Berry Country Fair Markets, is a ripper. You'll pick up all manner of jams and chutneys, candles and plant life, agricultural implements and antiques, and there's live entertainment to boot. But has the markets outgrown the town? It lasts from 7 am to 2 pm, after which calm is restored to Berry. The numbers in the town's two pubs thin out. The shop assistants share a sigh of relief.
When the heathens have departed, Berry is a delightful spot, full of cafes and craft stores, delis and sweet shops. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and really green. Seven kilometres out of town, you'll find the Drawing Rooms of Berry, the perfect spot for a romantic interlude.
Drawing Rooms sounds a little posh, like some English affair, but don't be misled. Built by Adrian Turnbull and his wife, Kerry, its a lovely rural retreat with superb views of the Drawing Rooms Rocks, between Berry and Kangaroo Valley.
There are three luxury lodges with mezzanine bedrooms and double spas, and three bed and breakfast-style rooms in the main Guesthouse. The Lodges are designed for couples or family groups and are spaced well apart so you are not aware you have neighbours. The Rainforest Lodge, in which we stayed, has superb views, whichever way you gaze. There's an abundance of bird life (lyrebirds, king parrots, and wild ducks).
Many guests, I suspect, find the tranquility beguiling and switch off completely. Our regime included reading, sleeping, watching DVDs and more sleeping. The air is fresh and the locals (one very fat wombat and a couple of passing rabbits) were not at all perturbed by our presence. The lodges have kitchens and you can self-cater, picking up provisions from the Emporium Food Co in town, order a range of curries from Berihuricari, or pick up some goodies from the Berry Sourdough Bakery. A chef is also on call to cater for small groups.

DRAWING ROOM ROCKS WALK
The Drawing Room Rocks is where nature has sculpted gigantic sandstone rocks into a stunning arrangement of tables and chairs on the rim of an escarpment, 600m above sea level. While seated on the chairs, you will experience one of the best coastal views in NSW taking in the panorama of Kangaroo Valley, Nowra, Berry, Gerroa, the Shoalhaven River and the Pacific coastline. From the intersection of Woodhill Mt road, Wattamolla road and Brogers Creek road, start walking 200m northward along Brogers Creek road. Diverge right onto a minor road. Keep to the crest of the spur for 550 metres. At this point, cross over a cattle grid and enter the private property. Turn to the west and experience the spectacular views looking up to the Wattamolla Valley towards Kangaroo Valley. Follow the well trodden track up to the crest of the spur over the grass at first, then into the forest. The track is not overly steep but rises significantly to Barren Grounds Nature Reserve and the sandstone tops. As it climbs, it leads along the west side of some bluffs, to a zigzag which provides a route to the top of the bluffs. Thereafter, you need to follow the well defined but rough track through the scrub. It gradually rises on a heathland-covered plateau and swings to the right to arrive at the main escarpment rim. After taking in the breath-taking views at the cliff rim, return along the same path. Allow 2 hours in total for the return trip.
